Wood and laminate flooring are two of the most popular types of flooring across the country and for good reasons.  Not only is there a wide range of styles, colours and even budget-friendly options but the floors are easy to clean and look super stylish.

Before you choose a flooring option, it is a good idea to understand a few of the basics.  Wood flooring is different from laminate.  Wood floors are made from real wood with no coatings or protective layers.  This makes it a very natural flooring with all the character of real wood but it does mean it is a little more vulnerable to dents, scratches and other damage.

Laminate flooring is a man-made product that takes a wood product such as MDF and adds layers to it.  It is finished with a wood-effect outer layer that gives it the look of wood while being much stronger.  Laminate flooring is less likely to dent or scratch but doesn’t have the look and feel of real wood.

Both these options are ideal for rooms such as living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and even hallways.  They don’t work quite as well in kitchens and aren’t a good idea for bathrooms.
